What Do You Mean? by “Contentment”Play Audio
But take heart! I have overcome the world.
For this last week in the “What do mean?” series we will be examining what the word contentment means and what it looks like. When that word comes to mind, we might think of a person who has completed work, someone who is calm in the midst of trouble or perhaps someone who is living simply and happily. Contentment might be described in these ways, or others but we all recognize it has to do more with our attitude than it does with our circumstances.
To live contently is something that we all desire for, yet, too often we seek contentment through what we have, to no avail. Thankfully, the apostle Paul wrote about how to be content in 1 Timothy 6, and taught us that true contentment is not about what we have, but who we know.
But godliness with contentment is great gain, for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content. (1 Tim. 6:6-8 )
