This is the Canada Day Weekend, and whether you were born here, immigrated here or are just visiting, it will be hard to ignore the celebrations and symbols that identify us as Canadians. But what about our identity in Christ? While we may have documents to prove our citizenship for a particular country, our relationship with Christ is not proven by pieces of paper, but rather by our faith.
By Faith, I refer to not just what we say, but how we live. The Bible reminds us that our salvation is not based on our lineage, our geography, our ethnicity but rather our faith is based in Christ. It is seen by believing in God, trusting in Him and serving Him. So, while we may give thanks to God for all that He has given to us here in Canada, we must never forget that our true home is with God.
Instead, they were longing for a better country – a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them. (Heb. 11:16)
