The story of Christmas is a strange and wonderful tale of celebration, feasting, dancing, revelry, worship, and a few very strange customs indeed. But the real story of Christmas is found in what some call “The Great Reversal” and what Pastor Dan calls “The Triumph of Christmas.” Therefore, today, we welcome all the people who gather, and today rest assured that Christmas belongs to you – it is the ultimate gift from God.
It was the wise men who first brought gifts to the Christ Child, and for centuries gift giving has been a part of Christmas. Hence today, as we remember a time when gold, frankincense and myrrh were the gifts of Christmas, let us rejoice, sing, feast, and give lots and lots of gifts, for Christmas does indeed come in a box!
Today marks the beginning of the Christmas Season as we celebrate the first Sunday of Advent. During this time we reflect on the first coming of Jesus and eagerly await the second coming. As we look at the birth of Jesus and towards His return, let us consider the Prince of Peace and how His presence brings peace to all people at all times.

This morning as we worship together we bring our focus on the mission of the Church. October is Mission’s month at HPBC and so for the rest of this month we will learn how we can better support our missionaries and share God’s love in our own lives.In the continued theme of stewardship we might call this the stewardship of the Gospel.
