I Sing The Mighty Power of God – God the CreatorPlay Audio
In the Beginning God Created the Heavens and the Earth
Isaac Watts (1674 – 1748) was one of the greatest hymn writers of all time, apparently because once, after complaining about the music in church Isaac’s father told him, “if he thought he could do better then he should write some new hymns himself.” He did – 750 to be exact. Which is why Isaac Watts became known as the father of the English hymn.
Watts was not a healthy or handsome man, in fact he was very short and his body was disfigured – and spent most of his life sick and alone – never able to find a wife. But in spite of his lowly state, he taught us to worship God with such beauty and power that you would never know he was a man of hardship and loneliness.
Today we sing many of his songs in our worship services, including: I Sing the Mighty Power of God, Alas And Did My Saviour Bleed, When I survey the Wondrous Cross, Jesus Shall Reign, We’re Marching to Zion, and of course, Joy to the World.
